Chamomile comes from the Greek word chamalmelon which means "earth-apple" because the plant's scent resembles that of an apple. The Roman Chamomile essential oil truly does have a sweet and floral aroma, with an incredible calming quality on emotions and body alike. It's a unique oil that I always have on hand.
Roman Chamomile essential oil is steam distilled from the flower of the plant. These flowers are daisy-like and smell sweet, it takes about 2.5 pounds of flowers to make a 5 ml bottle at doTERRA. The flower heads are normally dried to make tea, and there a wide variety of chamomile types. You can add a few drops to hot water to make your own tea*
In ancient Rome, Roman Chamomile was used to help soldiers take courage during times of war. In the same way, using it gives you the feeling of being supported by life during times of struggle.
What makes this essential oil so calming for the body and mind? The esters. Essential oils high in esters are calming, relaxing, and have balancing effects on mood when diffused. The esters in Roman Chamomile are known for their ability to reduce the appearance of blemishes when applied topically.
