Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli is one of the most grounding essential oils I know of. It has a musky aroma that's famous for being mimicked in high end perfumes, and Patchouli grew in popularity because of the hippie movement in the 60's and 70's where it was used in musky incense.

Surprisingly Patchouli is part of the mint family! It does so much more than just smell good. In fact, it's actually an aphrodisiac so if you're looking to set the mood, do so with Patchouli.

doTERRA sources its' Patchouli from Indonesia, one of the most magical places, where it grows in abundance. It comes from delicate, pink-white flowers but the essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves.

It's a powerful mood influencer which you'll want in your tool box to balance your mood on a regular basis. How it does this is with its' dopamine balancing abilities. It has a grounding effect on the body, when we're anxious we're up in our heads in our thinking mind, and we 'leave' our body which makes us feel scattered and stressed.

Patchouli has antidepressant and sedative qualities, bringing your awareness back into your body to feel steady and at peace. Be sure to use this if you experience winter blues. Emotionally, Patchouli is the oil of physicality, supporting us to become fully present in our body. Especially those of us who escape the body through spiritual pursuits or other forms of distraction. It supports addictive/obsessive personalities by teaching moderation.

It compliments yoga, tai chi, or any other exercises that aim to connect the spirit with the body. It helps heal body shame and any emotional judgments or issues with seeing the body.

Patchouli essential oil is a root chakra healer in this way, so if you're out of balance in any areas of your physical life, like money, body, relationships, then use Patchouli to balance this chakra by applying it to the bottoms of feet.

Make your own perfume using Patchouli, toxin free with mood balancing effects! If you find the scent too heady, add citrus to balance it out, like doTERRA's Citrus Bliss, Lime, or Bergamot (my favorite). doTERRA has Patchouli in its' own perfume blend, Whisper. I've even made root chakra balancing incense using Patchouli, Bergamot and Vetiver. Here's the recipe I've used! Diffusing the oil is the fastest and most affordable way to experience the benefits, though.
