A dear friend and client of mine recently asked me why there is no Lily of the Valley essential oil at doTERRA. I love to research and learn as much as possible, so her question inspired me to find out why this pure essential oil is not available, not only at doTERRA but in general.
According to the information out there, there is no authentic Lily of the Valley Absolute (also known as Muguet de Bois) available commercially at this time. Lily of the Valley Absolute, meaning in its' purest form, is very difficult to obtain and extract.
Even the purest form of Lily of the Valley extract out there (which is very hard to find) doesn't actually smell like anything! The perfumes that are scented this way are synthetic, meaning they need additives and fragrances to actually have it smell like the natural flower.
There is no essential oil or absolute made from Lily of the Valley on a commercial level because the processing destroys the odor.
Since doTERRA only creates 100% Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils in their purest form, they do not offer the perfume or synthetic version of this oil.
My friend loved the smell of this beautiful flower, and was interested in the health and therapeutic properties such as its use in the treatment for heart disease, high blood pressure, depression. Overall the flower brings happiness and a sense of security. I matched up these qualities with oils that are currently available and there are many options that are very similar!
Ylang Ylang was one I recommended which also balances heart rate and reduces high blood pressure, while bring peace, relaxation, easing feelings of anxiety. It's known as the oil of the inner child, so it instills feelings of joy, playfulness, security, and creativity. It smells incredibly beautiful, and is a powerful healer. It was one of the first oils I used in my healing from grief and anxiety, I love it so much.
The next recommendation I have as an alternative in its absolute form is Jasmine. The scent is so similar, it evokes feelings of euphoria, splendor, and joy while easing depression and anxiety. Emotionally it brings you from hampered, to liberated. It's an aphrodisiac, antidepressant, antispasmodic, regenerative, calming, and carminative.
Neroli is another excellent alternative, with a similar flower based smell and healing properties of Lily of the Valley. Also known as bitter orange blossom, it is a unifying and stabilizing oil. It helps calm troubled hearts in relationship conflict. It promotes harmony in the changing dynamics of long-term relationships. It also relieves chronic depression, and is an aphrodisiac, antiseptic, bactericidal, cordial, carminative, disinfectant, antispasmodic, deodorant, digestive, emollient, sedative, and tonic substance.
Blend: I found this amazing diffuser blend on Pinterest that was created to smell exactly like Lily of the Valley! Use this blend to get the same benefits and to have the same wonderful smell of this gorgeous flower.
These are the best alternatives to using Lily of the Valley essential oil, other than smelling it naturally in its plant form. Have you tried any of these oils and had this experience? Let me know in the comments
