Black Pepper essential oil is an obscure oil with a unique scent profile that's sweet, rich and musky. It's an unexpected scent that I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy. It's fruity and light, with uplifting properties. This multi-purpose oil has a rich history and powerful mental and physical health benefits.

In ancient Greece and Rome, black pepper was extremely popular and was even used as a medium of exchange. Black actually pepper shares a similar chemical structure Melissa essential oil, which is much more and almost triple the price as a result.

With doTERRA essential oils being Certified Pure Therapeutic grade quality and third-party tested (with results on Source to You), their Black Pepper is safe to ingest and be used in cooking. Simply use wherever you would normally use Black Pepper.

When Black Pepper essential oil is orally ingested, a sesquiterpene (chemical constituent) called caryophyllene helps the body support healthy cell function. Internal use of Black Pepper essential oil can also promote healthy circulation.

This is known as a hot oil, so when used topically, it should be applied with caution due to its powerful warming sensation. Just dilute it with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil. This makes it a wonderful support for poor circulation in extremities (ingested internally and a perfect oil to use in massage.

If you suffer from anxious feelings, Black Pepper is a great calmer of the nerves. What it does is relax tightened emotions, in the same way it warms and eases skin. Because it contains Limonene, it has uplifting properties. So using it to shift out of grogginess after an afternoon nap will help you become mentally alert again. Diffusing it with some grounding oils such as Juniper Berry and Cedarwood will ease your anxious feelings and calm your nervous system.

I talked about Black Pepper in my Winter Wellness with Essential Oils workshop in January as being a powerful immune support oil when seasonal threats are high in the winter. Certain natural chemicals in it such as monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes, support the immune system when needed most. The best way to experience these benefits is to take two drops of Black Pepper essential oil in a Veggie Capsule when symptoms arise.

The doTERRA Science Blog explains how caryophyllene chemical constituent can be extremely crucial to the body because of its ability to support healthy cell function when ingested orally. It works with our endocannabinoid system the same way that CBD oil does. Other oils that containt caryophyllene are Copaiba, Clove, Melissa, and Rosemary. I wrote a popular post on how this chemical constituent in these oils is more effective than CBD, check it out here.

In addition, it provides digestion support and antioxidant support. It's stimulating properties send a signal to your body to get the digestive juices flowing and its' chemical constituents monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes are known for their antioxidant activity when ingested. To provide your body with greater antioxidant support, put one or two drops of Black Pepper essential oil into a Veggie Capsule and take internally.
